Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete the registration process.  If you are experiencing diarrhea, fever, a urinary tract infection or menstrual cramping the day of the exam, please notify the Urology Center by calling 832-355-2151.


 

PREPARE BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
It's important that you arrive at the Urology Center with a full bladder, if at all possible.  You may be asked to empty your bladder into a special toilet as part of your assessment. If you are having a prostate biopsy, please follow the instructions that your physician gives to you.
    
With all other testing, you may eat or drink whatever you wish prior to your exam, provided you do not have any other tests scheduled which require you to have an empty stomach. Depending on the tests your physician has ordered, you can expect to spend between one and one-and-a-half hours in the Urology Institute.  If you cannot keep your appointment, please call 832-355-8159 to reschedule.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE
After you register on the 10th floor, a staff member will direct you to the 12th floor, suite 1285.  After you have emptied your bladder, you will be asked to change into a hospital gown.  A nurse or technician will explain the test to be performed.

AFTER YOUR TEST
Depending on what test has been ordered ,you may have a catheter or a cystoscope placed into your urethra.  After is has been removed, you may experience some minor irritation, such as buring or discomfort when you urinate.  If you're not on fluid restrictions, you can alleviate the discomfort by drinking plenty of fluids, mainly water, for the rest of the day.  If the discomfort lasts longer than 24 hours, notify your phsyician.

You may also experience "pink tinged" urine after your test.  This usually does not last more than 24 hours.  If, however, you have bright red blood or blood clots in your urine, notify your phsyician right away.
